The type of rug your heavy horse needs depends on its environment. For example, if a horse spends a lot of time in a stable, it will need a different fleece than a horse that’s outdoors a lot of the time. A horse that moves around, likely won’t require the same rug as one that is in a stable for a lot of the time. Other factors that can affect the type of heavy horse rugs you choose can be the length of coat and even the age of the horse.

They act the same as horse/pony wicking rugs, but take into account the dimensions of a heavy horse in the same way our donkey wicking rugs fit the narrower build of a donkey.
Heavy horses are broader at the chest and shoulders, so when you’re choosing a heavy horse fleece the rug should take this into account.

It’s also worth having an extra heavy horse fleece in case the first one gets wet. It’s also a good idea to have a clean rug handy in case your horse needs it in an emergency.
